Red Aunts’ Debi Martini, RIP

Red Aunts bassist/vocalist Debi Martini has sadly passed away. As Pitchfork points out, her bandmates broke the news on Facebook, writing:

With tremendous sadness we are heart broken to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our sister and friend Debi . She was our rock goddess and our anchor and we will always treasure our time together and all that we accomplished . Thank you to all our friends and fans – we love you forever . If you would like to send a message please email [email protected] and we will share with Debi’s family and friends . We are devastated . We love you Debi .

Debi’s cause of death is not yet known.

Red Aunts formed in Long Beach in 1991 and released five albums on Epitaph Records and Sympathy for the Record Industry, as well as a handful of splits, before breaking up in 1998. They reunited in 2016, and have been playing shows ever since. Their last US tour ended this past June.

Rest in peace Debi, you’ll be missed.
