Red Sparowes reuniting, playing Roadburn
Not only is Emma Ruth Rundle one of the curators for Roadburn 2020, LA post-metallers Red Sparrowes (of which Emma was a member) will be reuniting for the first time in nearly a decade to play the fest. Exciting news!
It is with great joy that I am able to announce that after a ten year hiatus, Red Sparowes will be reuniting for Roadburn 2020 for an exclusive performance. It’s a huge honor to resurrect the band that really brought me into the fold of the Roadburn family.
Ane bassist Greg Burns adds:
After a long hiatus, we have decided to get Red Sparowes back on the stage. I can’t imagine a better way to return than by playing what has always been one of our favorite festivals. Our past performances at Roadburn are among our collective favorite shows, not only because of the incredible line-ups, but because of the Roadburn culture – one firmly grounded in a love for underground music and the drive to create an atmosphere that eliminates the silos between bands and audience. We are honored to be back.
Greg's quote makes it seem like they're back for more than just this festival... hopefully US shows will be added too?
Other new Emma-curated additions for Roadburn include Torche, Cloud Rat, and two Kristina Esfandiari projects (Miserable and NIGHTCRWLER). Plus, Roadburn also added Russian Circles, Brutus, Warhorse (who have been slowly adding more shows), Hante., Rorcal, Alber Jupiter, Die Wilde Jagd, and Dead Neanderthals.
In addition to Emma, Perturbator's James Kent is a curator, and the artists in residence will be Full of Hell and Lingua Ignota, who will play four sets each, including a collaborative set together. Other previously announced sets include Perturbator collaborating with Cult of Luna’s Johannes Persson; Julie Christmas collaborating with Johannes Persson and former Kylesa member Laura Pleasants; the first and last performance of Vile Creature and Bismuth's new collaborative piece A Hymn of Loss and Hope; Jo Quail; HEALTH; HIDE; Boy Harsher; She Past Away; Dool; Bada; and Acid Rooster.
Tickets for Roadburn go on sale today (9/24) at 2 PM EDT.
