Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 nominees: Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Judas Priest, more

The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been revealed. Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine were both nominated in their first year of eligibility (your first official recording has to be at least 25 years old). Kate Bush, Judas Priest, Eurythmics, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Dire Straits and Moody Blues have also been nominated for the first time (though they’ve been eligible for years, or in some cases, decades). They’ve also once again nominated Depeche Mode, LL Cool J, The Cars, The Zombies, MC5, The Meters, J. Geils Band, Link Ray, Rufus with Chaka Khan, and Bon Jovi.

You can vote for up to five nominees that you’d like to be inducted. The inductees will be revealed in December.

Earlier this year, Radiohead talked to Rolling Stone about finally being eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and not really caring. Jonny Greenwood said, “I don’t care. Maybe it’s a cultural thing that I really don’t understand. I mean, from the outside it looks like … it’s quite a self-regarding profession anyway. And anything that heightens that just makes me feel even more uncomfortable.” Ed O’Brien added, “I don’t want to be rude about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because for a lot of people it means something, but culturally I don’t understand it. I think it might be a quintessential American thing. Brits are not very good at slapping ourselves on the back. It seems very show-biz and I’m not very show-biz. […] But if you ask me what I’d rather be doing that night, I’d rather be sitting at home in front of the fire or going to a gig. I realized years ago that I didn’t like award ceremonies. You walk in there and you feel self-conscious. It’s just really uncomfortable. Wherever there is media there seem to be a real level of bullshit. It just feels non-authentic to us.” Colin Greenwood did he say that he’d “be grateful if [they] got in” though.
