Craig Bell

Rocket From the Tombs' Craig Bell releasing a solo LP & playing shows; Cheetah Chrome playing too

Proto-punk legends Rocket From the Tombs are currently reunited and planning to tour Europe this year. Bassist/vocalist Craig Bell is also taking some time this year to release a solo album and play a few of his own shows. Craig (also of the band Mirrors) will release aka Darwin Layne (his alter-ego in RFTT) in early September on NYC’s Ever/Never Records, and we’re premiering the song “Let It Go.” It’s not as freaky as RFTT (Craig is a little more of a straightforward singer than David Thomas), but it definitely has as much classic punk n’ roll in there. It’s good stuff, as you can hear for yourself below.

His upcoming shows include one in Brooklyn on September 9 at Alphaville with his Ever/Never labelmate Richard Papiercuts, plus Stefan Christensen & Friends and Consolidated Plastics. Tickets for that show are on sale now. Craig also plays New Haven the next day.

In related news, RFTT’s Cheetah Chrome (also of Dead Boys) plays NYC a day earlier than Craig does, at Bowery Electric on September 8 with Crank County Daredevils. Tickets are on sale for that show too.
