Roger Harvey streaming debut album, ‘Twelve Houses’ (listen)

Roger Harvey first let us know about his debut album Twelve Houses about a year ago, and the whole thing is finally here. It's delicate poppy indie with boyish vocals that anyone who owns a copy of The Antlers' Hospice, Youth Lagoon's The Year of Hibernation, or Death Cab for Cutie's Something About Airplanes needs to hear. Arrangement-wise though, Roger brings a massive Neutral Milk Hotel influence. It's never more clear than the horns on the waltz-y "Arrow/Plane," which are lifted straight from the Jeff Mangum songbook (he may as well have called it "Aeroplane," though perhaps that would be too on the nose).
A lot of these sounds are familiar, but Roger presents them in a refreshing way. And as you need to be to offer up emotionally bare music like this, Roger's a sharp lyricist. He obsesses over death, reminisces on underage drinking, and reminds us that lovers can be monsters. So basically it's the perfect soundtrack for your quarter-life crisis.
The album officially comes out this Friday (10/9) on Black Numbers (pre-order), but you can stream the whole thing below (via Noisey). Tour dates, including The Fest (but none in NYC), also below.
