Always outspoken Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters performed at a London rally calling for the release of Julian Assange on Monday (9/2). Sitting on a stage set up outside Priti Patel’s Home Office, Belfast Telegraph reports that Waters spoke before his single song performance:

Speaking to the crowd from a makeshift stage on Monday, Waters said: “Julian Assange, we are with you. Free Julian Assange.”

Before his performance, Waters claimed Assange is “locked up” 23 hours a day.

He said: “How do we put ourselves in the position of a Julian Assange in solitary confinement, or with that kid in Syria or Palestine or Rohingya, being blown to bits by these people in this building here?

“How do we put ourselves in the position of the parents of that child who will spend the rest of his life on crutches?

“It is called empathy and it is the most valuable thing any human being can possess in their lives.”

He then performed “Wish You Were Here” with guitarist Andy Fairweather Low, which you can watch below.

Assange, who founded WikiLeaks in 2006, was arrested at London’s Ecuadorian Embassy in April and charged with one count of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, and later, 17 additional counts under the Espionage Act. He was sentenced to an “imprisonment of 50 weeks” in a UK prison in May.
