roman a clef

Roman a Clef is Ryan Newmyer (A Sunny Day in Glasgow), Jen Goma (ASDIG, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, People Get Ready) and Kurt Feldman (Ice Choir, TPOBPAH, Depreciation Guild). Newmyer is the main songwriter here and shares with Feldman a love of mid-'80s New Pop; in this case Prefab Sprout seems to be the main influence. I have probably said other bands sound like Prefab Sprout before on this site, but Roman a Clef really really sound like Prefab Sprout. That is not a bad thing and they do it very well. Having released a couple demos online, Roman a Clef will release their debut album via Infinite Best (Ava Luna, Mr. Twin Sister) later this year. You can stream demos of "Lucky Toasts" and "PSBTV" below.

You may have caught them live in NYC during CMJ last year and they play NYC again on Friday (1/9) at Mercury Lounge with Wins and Klaus also on the bill. Tickets are on sale. Show flyer below...
