Rosemary's Greenpoint Tavern closing at the end of the month

This is a really sad one: Rosemary’s Greenpoint Tavern, which has been serving up affordable drinks on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg since the ’50s, will close at the end February, according to Brooklyn Based. It’s one of the true landmarks of Bedford stop Williamsburg, once known for their cheap giant beers in styrofoam cups and holiday decorations. While things changed dramatically on Bedford, it remained one of the few no-bullshit places to drink in the neighborhood. Brooklyn Based also says that Rosemary Bleday, who is 86 and has tended bar for most of the time GPT’s been open, is currently in the hospital — we wish her a speedy recovery.

People use “end of an era” a lot, but Rosemary’s closing definitely feels like a loss for Williamsburg. We’ll miss it. Their last day open is February 28.

Meanwhile: Enid’s in Greenpoint will close after 20 years in business in March.

There’s still Turkey’s Nest.
