Rough Trade shops launches monthly magazine, announces NYC RSD16 live performances (Nothing, Wall, more)
Rough Trade shops have just launched a monthly magazine. The first issue just came out — that’s the cover art above — and it includes an interview with Charles Bradley, an article on Kate Tempest‘s new book written by Mica Levi, a feature about artists inspired by JG Ballard, and more. There’s also a monthly advice column penned by Jonathan Richman and horoscopes by DJ/producer Andrew Weatherall. You can pick it up at Rough Trade and it’s free with a purchase of $25 or more, or $6 on its own.
Speaking of Rough Trade and publishing, they also just put out a book to celebrate their 40th anniversary. That anniversary doesn’t actually happen till next year, but the book is out now and comes with a 7″ single featuring John Grant, Will Burns and John (Arthur) Webb. There are also contributions from Thurston Moore, Brian Eno, Bill Drummond, Viv Albertine, David Shrigley, Jake Arnott, Lavinia Greenlaw, Jon Savage, Melissa Harrison and…a few of BrooklynVegan’s photos of when the store was turned into Sam Goody for an episode of VINYL.
In other news, Rough Trade’s Brooklyn location has announced its Record Store Day (4/16) in-store performances, which are free and open to the public. The store opens at 9 AM on RSD with live performances from Max Jury (noon), Wall (1 PM), Jesca Hoop (2 PM), Nothing (3 PM), The Fleshtones (4 PM) and Mr. Lif (5 PM). Eli Paperboy Reed will DJ starting at 10 AM. More info here.
