Run The Jewels began their Terminal 5 run with Gaslamp Killer, Nick Hook, Gangsta Boo & Cuz (night 1 pics)
"Run The Jewels 3" marks the first bulletproof rap record to rise under Trump's reign, and though the guys have only worked together since 2012, the record fortifies their position as a leading force of deft opposition, out-blaring the "alternative facts" deluge.
If you couldn't score tickets to any of RTJ's four sold-out New York gigs this week, the first of which detonated at Terminal 5 Saturday night, rest assured -- or further lament your misfortune -- that Run the Jewels' live performance is a bombastic, near-replica of its studio work.
On stage in Manhattan, El-P and Killer Mike were at once playful and incendiary, cracking jokes and effortlessly trading verses, igniting the room of 3,000, and plowing through most of "RTJ3" over 70 minutes. [NJ.com]
Killer Mike and El-P are in the midst of a four-night run at NYC's Terminal 5 as part of their tour in support of the third Run the Jewels album, RTJ3. The first two shows were this past Saturday (2/25) and Sunday (2/26), and the run continues tonight (2/27) and wraps up on Wednesday (3/1). Tonight's show was sold out but it's back on sale and you can still get tickets for Wednesday too.
We caught the first of the four shows, Saturday's. Like on the whole tour, it was with The Gaslamp Killer, Nick Hook, Gangsta Boo and Cuz. Pictures of that show are in the gallery above, and the setlist is below. Run the Jewels also debuted their new "Stay Gold" beer at Saturday's show. Did you try it?
The Gaslamp Killer and Nick Hook also played a late show at the Knockdown Center in Queens that same night. Anyone catch that one?
Here's a little more on the "Stay Gold" beer:
