Ryley Walker announces new LP on Dead Oceans (stream a track); BV-RBSS show w/ Hop Along & Beach Slang is soon
Folk singer and guitar great Ryley Walker has signed to Dead Oceans (Phosphorescent, Tallest Man on Earth) for the followup to 2014’s All Kinds of You. It’s called Primrose Green and will be out on the label on March 31. If you caught Ryley at CMJ this past October, you may have seen him perform the title track. NYC Taper has a recording of that, which you can listen to, along with the studio version, below. Popmatters caught him performing the song on his tour with Cloud Nothings:
The 24-year old guitarist was pleasing to watch and the instrumental beds the guys laid down were gorgeous enough that the songs almost didn’t need lyrics. When Walker introduced the song, “Primrose Green”, I thought of a similarly-named Hunger Games character, but he explained the tune was named after a booze-concoction he used to drink before advising the mostly under-age audience against drinking.
As discussed, Ryley also has dates coming up including a tour with Kevin Morby which hits Baby’s All Right on March 15 (tickets), as well as another Baby’s show happening much sooner. He plays the next BrooklynVegan-curated Red Bull Sound Select show with Hop Along, Beach Slang and Aye Nako at Baby’s on Tuesday, January 13. That’s $3 at the door with RSVP or $10 without. No advance sales, and all door money is going to be donated to CancerCare.
