Sam Evian releasing 'Premium' on Saddle Creek, touring with Whitney & Hoops

New York’s Sam Evian (aka Celestial Shore singer Sam Owens) recently signed to the trusty Saddle Creek, and he’ll release his debut album Premium for the label on September 30. Contributors to the album include Austin Vaughn (Here We Go Magic), Brian Betancourt (Hospitality, Here We Go Magic), Michael Coleman, Dan Iead (Cass McCombs), Cassandra Jenkins, Hannah Cohen, Shahzad Ismaily, Eddie Barbash, and Steve Marion (aka Delicate Steve). The lead single is “Sleep Easy,” which, to get really specific, sounds to me like a cross between Kurt Vile’s “Wakin On A Pretty Day” and The Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane.” As you may guess from that description, it’s chilled-out, laid-back stuff — perfect listening for a Sunday morning. Check out the video for the song below.

Sam will open some dates this year for Whitney, whose great debut album is also full of Sunday-morning vibes. That includes Witney’s NYC shows on October 10 at Music Hall of Williamsburg and October 11 at Bowery Ballroom. Both of those shows are also with Fat Possum-signed lo-fi band Hoops. Tickets for MHOW and Bowery are still available. All dates are listed below.
