She’s got a conversational singing style that’s gained her more than one comparison to her Richmond neighbor Lucy Dacus, and lyrics like the EP’s opening line (“Why are you such a misogynist? I would rather slit my throat than be stuck in a house with you”) feel instantly quotable in the way Lucy’s own debut was. The openness and relatability doesn’t end there. There’s a song called “Anxiety Olympics” which lives up to its title on just about every line, and she dives into a little Courtney Barnett-ish wit on “Toothbrush Song,” which begins: “You found my toothbrush in your apartment and I guess it freaked you out. I freaked out when I left it… but I’ve got to clean my mouth.”

The above quote is from our recent writeup of Richmond, VA indie rocker Sammi Lanzetta‘s debut EP, For Avery, which is out now on 6131 Records. Sammi has been touring, having played a house show in Brooklyn a week and a half ago, and she added more dates.

After wrapping up a run with Diet Cig, Sammi returns to NYC to play a proper venue, Knitting Factory on December 19 with The Rizzos and Sic Tic. Tickets are on sale. Updated dates are listed below.
