(Sandy) Alex G touring, playing NYC with the reunited Duster

(Sandy) Alex G has announced another round of tour dates in support of his acclaimed 2017 album Rocket, including a November tour with art pop musician Half Waif, who released the very good Lavender earlier this year.

About a month after that tour ends, Alex G plays a Brooklyn show at Warsaw on December 14 with the reunited Duster and Girlpool’s Harmony Tividad. Tickets for that show go on sale Wednesday (8/15) at noon but you can tickets now in the BrooklynVegan presale, which is currently underway. PASSWORD = SANDY.

This is Duster’s first-announced show since recently launching an Instagram account and teasing that they were working on new music for the first time in 18 years. Their return is an exciting one. In the time since they broke up, Duster’s Jason Albertini formed Helvetia and went on to join Built to Spill, and Duster’s music ended up influencing a large handful of currently buzzed about acts, including both Alex G and Girlpool. Here’s an excerpt from a recent Stereogum feature on their legacy:

“They are incredibly relevant,” states Harmony Tividad of Girlpool, one of the current day’s most relevant bands. “I think Duster’s music carries a true honesty and transparency that is being championed in this era specifically between social media and information accessibility.” In fact, it’s the lack of curation that Tividad feels works towards Duster’s advantage, as they’ve been basically untouched by the thinkpiecing, reissuing, and reunions that quickly leech the excitement out of any reassessment of the past.

[…] “I’ve tried hard over the years to extract whatever magic I can from their inscrutable sound,” [Sam] Ray [of American Pleasure Club and Ricky Eat Acid] notes. “Whether it’s a way to make guitars sound older, warmer, more decayed, or the way one or two lines of vocals recorded with the quality of an old answering machine message & sung just barely out of key could completely change the meaning & atmosphere of what would otherwise be a very-good but rather straightforward instrumental post-post-rock song.” He admits that A Whole Fucking Lifetime Of This closer “The Sun Was in My Eyes” is all but an overt Duster homage.

Girlpool are also playing Pitchfork’s OctFest on NYC’s Governors Island in September. All Alex G dates are listed below.
