Charles Van Kirk taps Sarah Jarosz for "Her Shadow" (listen)

Charles Van Kirk has an EP in teh works, and lead single “Her Shadow” features guest lead vocals from singer/songwriter (and I’m With Her member) Sarah Jarosz. “I’ve known Charlie since our college days in Boston. Our paths always seemed to intersect through mutual friends, so I was excited when he asked me to sing ‘Her Shadow.’ The song showcases Charlie’s vast sonic palette — a window into his seemingly endless musicality and precision in the studio,” Sarah says. And Charlie adds, “I’ve been a fan of Sarah’s records for a long time, so I’m well acquainted with her ability to completely disarm me as a listener. This is an honor for me to shine a light on her skills by framing her voice in a way that perhaps it hasn’t been before. ‘Her Shadow’ with Jarosz’s storytelling abilities in mind, giving her a lyric that spins a tale of nostalgia for a former lover who finds herself in perpetual flight from the idea of getting older.”

“Her Shadow” is a subtle, delicate pop song with a slight haunting quality and some nicely atmospheric vibes that keep things interesting. The single officially comes out later this week but it premieres below right now.
