School Damage (mems Chook Race & Ausmuteants) prep debut LP -- listen to "Tall Poppies"

school-damage

Australia’s School Damage is a new band featuring members of Melbourne’s fertile indie rock scene, led by Carolyn Hawkins (Chook Race, Pronto) and Jake Robertson (Ausmuteants, Hiero-phants, Frowning Clouds). Their songs deal with crises of everyday life, set to wobbly pop that recalls bands like Tronics, The Vaselines, and early ’80s Sydney band The Particles.

Following a few 7″ and cassette releases, School Damage will release their self-titled debut album on June 2 via Chapter Music (which is now distributed worldwide via Secretly Distribution). We’ve got the premiere of the album’s first single, “Tall Poppies,” a reference to “tall poppy syndrome.” Says Hawkins, “This song is about being plagued by self loathing and the only way to get rid of it is to bring other people down with you. Not very nice, and I do hope I’m not actually like this, but I guess the dark side of me can relate.” You can listen to “Tall Poppies,” and check out the LP artwork and tracklist, below.
