Shape of Despair

Shape of Despair playing US shows with Ilsa before Eternal Warfare Fest

Finnish funeral/death doom metal vets Shape of Despair are coming over to the US for some rare shows here this May. They’re playing Portland, OR’s Eternal Warfare festival (with Fauna, Anatomia, Evoken, Spectral Voice, Yellow Eyes, Vanum, Endorphins Lost, and more), and they’ll be doing just two headlining East Coast shows with support from Ilsa before that.

The shows with Ilsa include NYC’s Brooklyn Bazaar on May 15 with additional support from Funeral Leech (tickets) and DC’s Atlas Brew Works on May 16 (ticket info TBA).

The only other Shape of Despair date that appears to be currently announced is Czech festival Brutal Assault in August with Agnostic Front, Anaal Nathrakh, Anthrax, Carcass, Carpenter Brut, Caspian, Coven, Cult of Luna, Daughters, Deicide, Demolition Hammer, Electric Wizard, Emperor, Eyehategod, Godflesh, GosT, Immolation, Iron Reagan, Meshuggah, Metal Church, Mgla, Midnight, Monster Magnet, Myrkur, Napalm Death, The Obsessed, The Ocean, Prong, Sacred Reich, Sick Of It All, Slapshot, Sodom, Taake, Testament, Venom Prison, Voivod, Windhand, Wormed, and more.

Shape of Despair’s latest album is Monotony Fields, which came out in 2015 on Season of Mist. The following year, Season of Mist reissued Shape of Despair’s 1998 debut Alone in the Mist, which was released when the band was known as Raven. You can stream both of those albums below. Ilsa released their Relapse debut Corpse Fortress last year, and you can stream that below too.
