Signals Midwest touring with Thin Lips; Max Stern released a solo record

Last year, Ohio emo band Signals Midwest released their very good Evan Weiss-produced At This Age. It’s the kind of punky, mathy stuff that owes a lot to the genre’s ’90s era, and it’s one of the better recent takes on that sound. Last week, singer/guitarist Max Stern put out a solo mini-LP. It’s six songs that are slower and more stripped-down than Signals Midwest, but should certainly appeal to fans of that band. The album features drum programming, trumpet, and “everything else” by Eric Muth, background vocals by Shannen Moser (who opens the upcoming Sorority Noise tour), synth by Fred Thomas, and more. You can stream the whole thing below.

Signals Midwest also announced some tour dates. They’ll be in Brooklyn for a show on May 19 at Suburbia with Philly indie-punks Thin Lips, UK band Great Cynics, and locals Thick. $5 at the door gets you in. More details here.
