Silent Majority played Saint Vitus twice, one w/ Mind Over Matter (videos, setlists)
Silent Majority reunited for four shows to benefit the family of Long Island scene vet Rob Mcallister, who sadly passed away earlier this year. The first two were in Amityville in June, and the final two were in Brooklyn at Saint Vitus this past weekend. They played a Saturday night (7/2) show with Iron Chic, Primitive Weapons and GreenSleep; and a Sunday matinee (7/3) with Mind Over Matter, Miracle Drug and Group Leader.
I was at the Sunday show, which felt more like old friends having a good time for a good cause than a victory lap reunion tour (they're saying these four shows really are it). It sounded like most of the crowd was from Long Island and plenty had seen the band in their initial run, and the room was filled with people who looked like they've been waiting 15 years to scream along with these songs again. They sounded as great as you'd hope, and they filled the set with basically all the favorites: "Taming the L Word," "Windows Down," "No I'm Not," "Polar Bear Club," etc etc etc. At the Sunday show, after Tommy Corrigan asked the crowd if it'd be corny (to a resounding "NO!"), they played "Polar Bear Club" twice. The band was clearly in a great mood, telling old funny stories the whole night, like about the time Rich quit the band during a snowstorm and took all his equipment home on a sled.
Direct support at the Sunday show came from Mind Over Matter (whose Artie Shepherd is one of the Saint Vitus owners), a veteran LIHC band who Silent Majority said on stage were a huge reason they even formed their band. (They also had Mind Over Matter's Scott Martin on bass for these shows.) Mind Over Matter also mentioned on stage that Silent Majority were the only reason they reunited for this show. They said that after Silent Majority sold out the Saturday night show, they'd only play a second Vitus show if Mind Over Matter opened. Like Silent Majority, Mind Over Matter were cracking jokes the whole set and having a great time and sounding awesome. They also ended their set with a huge finale that included Tommy and the frontmen from Vision of Disorder, Deathcycle and more all trading verses over a cover of Neglect's "The LSS."
It's a bummer these bands don't play more, but it was truly a treat to see them back in action, back to back. Check out videos and setlists from both shows below:
