Last year, Single Mothers released the new album Through A Wall, which was the closest their music ever came to breakneck-speed ’80s hardcore. They’ve now got a new non-album single, “Metropolis,” which is just a little slower and ever so slightly less aggressive, and which was recorded just before Through A Wall. Main member Drew Thomson tells us:
“Metropolis” was recorded just before ‘Through A Wall’ at Lincoln County Social Club in Toronto Ontario. It’s a collaboration between Peter Landi and myself. I had recently moved apartments and my old landlord had sold the building we lived in and kicked everyone out. There was a real estate boom and we were all seemingly in the middle of it. Peter came to me with the song and once we were in the studio the lyrics came right away. I was just venting. A few years before I was living in my van. Sometimes it takes all the energy you have just to keep the lights on.

Single Mothers are on tour in the UK this week, and they’ll do a US run opening for Off With Their Heads in August. The run with OWTH hits Brooklyn’s The Kingsland on August 16 (tickets) and Asbury Park’s House of Independents on August 17 (tickets). Single Mothers also doing a September run in their home country of Canada with fellow Canadian band Cancer Bats. All dates are listed below.
