SiriusXM launches music talk channel Volume; Desert Daze is theme of this week's BrooklynVegan Blog Radio show

SiriusXM this week launched Volume, what they’re describing as the first-ever 24/7 all talk channel about music. The daytime schedule features: “Feedback,” a morning drive time show anchored by Nik Carter and magazine editor/writer Lori Majewski; hard rock DJ Eddie Trunk hosts “Trunk Nation” from noon to 4 PM. There are also shows with Melissa Etheridge, Anthrax’s Scott Ian (“Never Meet Your Heroes”), former MTV News Editor Kurt Loder, David Fricke, and a show called “Debatable” with hosts Alan Licht with original MTV VJ Mark Goodman. And more. You can find Volume on SiriusXM channel 106.

Meanwhile this week’s edition of BrooklynVegan Blog Radio on SiriusXMU (channel 35) features artists who played this past weekend’s Desert Daze Festival. After four years in Mecca, CA during the Spring, Desert Daze has moved to the magical Joshua Tree National Park in the California desert during the much cooler fall season. Shows in Joshua Tree usually take place at the legendary venue, Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown (Paul McCartney even showed for an intimate gig in between the recent Desert Trip weekends), but this went down at the Institute of MentalPhysics. Kind of fitting for a festival that focuses mainly on psych.

This year’s lineup featured the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Deafheaven, Beach Fossils, Deerhunter, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the Coathangers, Gary Wilson, Toro Y Moi, White Fence, Dead Meadow and even a keynote address by Andrew W.K. The fest was also originally supposed to feature the first West Coast performance from Suicide in 16 years, but due to the passing of Alan Vega, that turned into a special tribute set. The combination of being in the middle of Joshua Tree during the fall and that crazy lineup made for something absolutely magical in the desert. Those in attendance lucked out.

During the two hours of BrooklynVegan Blog Radio, not only will you hear new music from Foxygen, Thee Oh Sees and Cherry Glazerr, but also classics from Television, Suicide and The Sonics. The show airs at noon and midnight (Eastern tTime) on SiriusXMU and is also available OnDemand with the SiriusXM app. Playlist is below.
