Sleater-Kinney, Haim, J Mascis, Steve Jones & more played Fred Armisen’s 50th birthday party (pics, video)
You're turning 50 in December. How does that feel?
I'm psyched. For some reason, the person I've focused on for turning 50 is Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. He's still himself and still an innovator. He's turned the Flaming Lips into an art platform. Turning 50 is great. I'm gonna celebrate in a graveyard.
Oh, yes. I'll have a bunch of my friends come together. It's not a public event, but we'll be at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. We'll have some chocolate. J Mascis is gonna play. He just turned 50 too. We'll play music and celebrate being alive. - [Rolling Stone]
Sunday (12/14) was Fred Armisen's 50th birthday and his party happened at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, and was quite the affair. Sleater-Kinney, Haim, J. Mascis, Rusty Anderson with Susanna Hoffs, and more performed for the SNL/Portlandia/Documentary Now!/Trenchmouth star (often with Fred), and onetime Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones sang "Happy Birthday" with J. Mascis on drums while his girlfriend Natasha Lyonne wheeled out the cake. One of Fred's gifts: an actual plot at Hollywood Forever Cemetery right next to Johnny Ramone. You can check out Instagram pics and video from Fred's 50th bash below.
Since his birthday, Fred has offered up on Instagram lists of his Top 20 heroes/idols (including David Byrne, Cindy Sherman, Prince and Steve Jobs) and Top 25 LPs (including records by Kraftwerk, The Damned, Husker Du and more) from his life to date. Check out those lists below too.
