Sleater-Kinney share new song, detail St. Vincent-produced LP; fall tour tix on sale

Sleater-Kinney already revealed that they’d have a new St. Vincent-produced album called The Center Won’t Hold out this year and then they released the first single, “Hurry On Home.” Now, they shared second single “The Future Is Here” and revealed more album details. Compared to the danceable lead single, “The Future Is Here” is more of a slow-burner, and it’s another very promising taste of this LP. Listen below.

The album will be out August 16 via Mom + Pop (pre-order) and you can check out the tracklist below. That’s the official album artwork above.

Carrie Brownstein, Janet Weiss, and Corin Tucker, further discussed the new album in a press release:

Brownstein explains, “We’re always mixing the personal and the political but on this record, despite obviously thinking so much about politics, we were really thinking about the person — ourselves or versions of ourselves or iterations of depression or loneliness — in the middle of the chaos.” Weiss adds, “I think for Carrie and Corin it was liberating to explore a different sound palette. Annie (St. Vincent) has a lot of experience building her own music with keyboards and synthesizers so she could be our guide to help us make sense of this new landscape and still sound like us.” Tucker says, “The Center Won’t Hold drops you into the world of catastrophe that touches on the election. And almost like a mission statement, at the end of that song, it’s like the band is finding its way out of that space by becoming a rock band.”

As mentioned, the band is also going on a fall tour, including NYC shows on October 30 at Kings Theatre and Halloween at Hammerstein at Manhattan Center. They’ve expanded that tour since we last posted, adding second shows in Chicago, Oakland, Portland, and Seattle, and tickets for the NYC shows — and the rest of the dates — go on sale today (6/14) at 10 AM local time.
