Slowdive's Rachel Goswell forms The Soft Cavalry, shares single from debut LP

Rachel Goswell is a member of Slowdive, who have had one of the most graceful returns in recent memory, as well as Minor Victories (which includes members of Mogwai and Editors), and now she’s announced another project. The Soft Cavalry is a collaboration with her husband Steven Clarke who Rachel met in 2014 when he began tour managing Slowdive. Steve had played in bands since the ’90s but he says his songwriting didn’t catalyze until meeting Rachel. “I’d always had ideas but never felt that anything I had to say was worthy of anyone’s attention, let alone my own,” he says. “I wish that I could have done this fifteen years ago but, in reality, I simply couldn’t have. But I’m not one to overly wallow. I’d rather plough the various levels of confusion into songs.” They worked on songs, with Rachel sharing lead vocals, during downtime for Slowdive and Minor Victories, and have now announced their self-titled debut which will be out July 5 via Bella Union.

The first single from the record is “Dive,” which is jazzy, ethereal and widescreen dreampop that makes a nice companion to Rachel’s other groups without really sounding like them. Listen, and check out the album’s artwork and tracklist, below.
