SOM

SOM (mem Constants, Junius) releasing debut LP (stream "Open Wounds")

SOM is a new band with some familiar faces. Guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Will Benoit and drummer Duncan Rich are both founding members of Constants (Duncan left that group in ’07), and bassist Justin Forrest is currently the touring drummer (and sometimes on-album contributor) in Junius. (Will has also worked as a producer/engineer on various Junius, Caspian, and Rosetta albums, and he’s done remixes of all three of those bands under his Living Phantoms moniker.) SOM are self-releasing their debut album The Fall on November 9 (pre-order), and going by the band members’ resumes, you can probably guess what they sound like: a big, atmospheric mix of shoegaze, post-rock, space rock, and sludge metal, all led by Will’s ethereal vocals. It’s good stuff, as you can hear from lead single “Open Wounds,” which premieres below. It comes with a visualizer made by A Storm of Light’s Josh Graham, who used to do live visuals for Neurosis.
