Sonos & Ikea SYMFONISK Speakers

Sonos & IKEA team up on new line of speakers

Sonos and IKEA have teamed up on a new line of speakers. The SYMFONISK speakers, due in IKEA stores in August, come in a table lamp and bookshelf version (the bookshelf one can also be mounted on a wall to be used as an actual little shelf). As you’d expect these will integrate with Sonos’ other speaker components, like the Beam, Playbar, and Playbase, to be controlled through the Sonos app. Whether they require an allen wrench remains to be seen.

IKEA global business leader Björn Block told The Verge that IKEA’s smart home app will eventually include music controls for the speakers, as well as lighting controls for the lamp. “Our goal is for our collective work to save space, get rid of cords, make clutter invisible, and bring sound and music into the home in a more beautiful way,” he writes.

Both the lamp and the bookshelf speakers are less expensive than the Sonos Play 1, and Sonos CEO Patrick Spence told The Verge that these new IKEA collaborations are similar to that, if a rung or two below, as far as sound quality goes. Technical specifications on the speakers (via The Verge):
