Soundwalk Collective & Patti Smith announce 'Peradam' (stream the title track)

UK duo Soundwalk Collective have been undertaking a trilogy of albums — “The Perfect Vision” — made with Patti Smith which “take their inspiration from the writings of three emblematic French poets: Antonin Artaud, Arthur Rimbaud and René Daumal, and their necessity to travel to different lands to acquire a new vision and perspective on themselves and artworks.” The final of these is Peradam, which is out September 4 via Bella Union and also features guest appearances from Anoushka Shankar, Tenzin Choegyal and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Peradam takes inspiration from René Daumal’s early 1940s novel Mount Analogue: a Novel of Symbolically Authentic Non-Euclidean Adventures in Mountain Climbing where the author plotted a course up “the ultimate symbolic mountain” in search of true meaning. “Peradam” is an idea from the novel, a crystalline stone that holds truth for those on the right path.

Soundwalk Collective made the album from sampled field recordings captured in Nanda Devi in the Himalayas, Rishikesh, Varanasi and Kingdom of Lo (Upper Mustang) to “channel Daumal’s metaphysical quest in physical sound.” Crasneanscki adds “Through our physical travels, we discovered the most humble objects of meaning that carry the spirit of what he searched for and found. It can be as simple as a stone, which can inhabit a power almost like a talisman.”

You can get a taste via Peradam’s title track that in addition to Patti Smith’s spoken word, also features vocals from Tenzin Choegyal. Watch the video, and listen to the two previous  below.
