Marissa Nadler Unearthed

24 special/exclusive releases out today for Bandcamp's COVID-19 fundraiser

Today until 3 AM ET Saturday (3/21), Bandcamp is waiving its cut of sales from purchases to give 100% of profits directly to artists amidst the coronavirus outbreak, and several label accounts have pledged to do the same for their artists. We already recommended 30 albums from 2020 and 15 metal albums from 2020 to buy on Bandcamp today (plus some pre-orders), but also, tons of artists have put out special releases just for today, many of which are made up of live recordings, demos, covers, and other rarities from the vaults. Some of these are benefit releases for charity. Some of them are ONLY going to be available today, so don’t sleep!

Unsurprisingly, all this is directing unprecedented traffic to Bandcamp and the site has been a little glitchy today, but never for too long. If you encounter a problem, try again in a few. Here are they are, in no particular order at all…

Marissa Nadler – Unearthed

Marissa Nadler has, uh, unearthed some demos and a cover of “Under Your Spell Again” for this new compilation, Unearthed.

Uniform & The Body – Live At The End Of The World

Since they had to cancel the remainder of their collaborative tour, Uniform & The Body uploaded this live album that was recorded earlier this month at Zebulon in Los Angeles before the tour was cancelled.

I Fall in Love With the Light: A Sacred Bones Compilation

Uniform & The Body and Uniform on their own are also both featured on Sacred Bones’ new “compilation featuring rare and unreleased tracks by Sacred Bones artists who were forced to cancel tours in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.” Pick up your copy HERE.

Prosthetic Records – Self Isolation Sounds Compilation

Here’s another label compilation, and this one’s got 56 (!) songs including two “mystery” artists. Any guesses on who they are??

black midi – Black Midi Live in the USA

UK math rockers black midi had a reputation as a killer live band before they even released an album, so it’s cool that they released this 16-song live album recorded on their 2019 fall US tour. Rapper Fat Tony appears on two songs.

Pallbearer – “Ashes” (Redux)

Modern-day doom metal greats Pallbearer have released a new version of “Ashes” from theirr excellent 2014 album Foundations of Burden, available exclusively on Bandcamp.

Torche – Part Times Punk Session

The band writes: “During our tour in the fall of 2019 we recorded this four song session for the Part Time Punks radio show on KXLU 88.9FM in Los Angeles. Just last week our current tour in Europe with Russian Circles was cancelled due to COVID-19 and like many other musicians we are now faced with staggering losses to try and recoup. We are putting all the proceeds from the sales of this session, available exclusively here on Bandcamp, toward the tour expenses and losses we need to cover and replace. You can purchase this at any price point you see fit, any and all support helps and we’re so grateful for everyone who buys this.”

Polica – Live In Hamburg 2020

Polica were one of the many bands who had to cancel a tour, and they released this live album to help offset the cost of cancelling.

Martin Courtney (Real Estate) – Pario Marty EP

Just for today, Real Estate’s Martin Courtney has shared this eight-song EP that dates from 2008, right before the band started. “Technically it’s never been released other than the CDrs I mailed to friends back in the day.”

Porcupine Tree – first-ever live performance & other rarities

Prog legends Porcupine Tree have uploaded several rare recordings to Bandcamp and they say even more are coming: “There’s absolutely no rush to avail yourself of its contents, it will be around indefinitely and we aim to add more music to it over the coming months.” Check them all out HERE and listen to two below, including one of their first-ever (!) live performance.

Petrol Girls – “Touch Me Again And I Will Fucking Kill You” Merch

This is merch UK punks Petrol Girls already had from an older song of theirs, but in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, it feels especially timely for unintended reasons. They would’ve had it on their US tour, but that was cancelled. All Petrol Girls merch here.

Mania/Phobonoid split
Portland black metallers Mania and Italian dark ambient artist Phobonoid released this split on Eternal Warfare Records, and the label says: “This album was rushed out to raise funds for those who have lost their jobs due to being quarantined against covid-19.
