Spiritualized are on tour now - ENTER TO WIN tickets to Kings Theatre, Brooklyn
Spiritualized returned last month with their first album in six years, And Nothing Hurt, and kicked off a short tour. The Times reported from the London show at Eventim Apollo:
Free jazz, country and garage rock collided in music that had vulnerability under the bombast. “I’m Your Man,” in which Pierce confessed to being “wasted, loaded, permanently folded” in cracked tones, was a touching celebration of imperfection.
Anything can be made to sound good with a choir and an orchestra, but Pierce has fashioned something unique with Spiritualized. To go from the junkie’s lament “Come Together” to the wholesome gospel “Oh Happy Day,” with its refrain of “Jesus washed my sins away”, and for it to feel of a piece is an achievement indeed. The set began and ended with “Hold On,” a (seemingly) heartfelt ode to companionship, wrapping up a concert that displayed clarity of vision and no small amount of musicians to sign cheques for. It may not be good for his bank balance, but Pierce’s maximal approach does make for a remarkable live experience.
Spiritualized visit North America on tour over the next couple of weeks for shows in NYC and Los Angeles. The NYC show happens on October 11 at Kings Theatre, and tickets are on sale now. You can also enter to win a pair below. See all of Spiritualized’s upcoming dates below.
For those attending the Kings Theatre show, they have a new outdoor courtyard bar where you can hang out for an hour before the show.
