Strand of Oaks brought their tour to Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (5/8), their first NYC show since releasing Hard Love back in February. The show was actually supposed to happen in March, but it got postponed because of a blizzard, which Tim Showalter mentioned on stage multiple times last night. The new album is a psychedelic take on arena rock (in a Pearl Jam meets U2 sense), and the live show sounded just as tremendous as you’d hope. His band included lead guitarist Jason Anderson (who, as of more recently, leads the band Tracks), and Tim mentioned on stage that his first time playing the venue was when he was playing guitar for Jason’s band, back when the venue was called Northsix. Jason, who also opened the show with a solo set, is a hell of a guitarist and the new-and-improved Strand of Oaks really gives him a chance to shred.

The crowd was in for a special treat when Strand of Oaks played “HEAL.” The song includes the lyric “Thank you Kristian for keeping me clean,” and that very Kristian, Kristian Matsson, aka The Tallest Man on Earth, came out on stage to sing with Tim. Pictures of the show — Tallest Man’s appearance included — are in the gallery above.

Strand of Oaks have more upcoming shows, including NJ’s XPoNential Fest and a free show at Montauk’s Surf Lodge.
