Austin country singer Carson McHone debuted with a self-titled EP in 2013, released her first album Goodluck Man in 2015, and now she's set to put out her sophomore LP, Carousel, this Friday (10/26) via Nine Mile Records. She made it in Nashville with producer Mike McCarthy (a frequent collaborator of other Austin acts like Spoon and Trail of Dead), and while it's undeniably country music, Carson cites such influences as Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, and Thomas Wolfe for this album as well. It's heavy on the melancholic ballads, but she works in few rollicking numbers as well. Here's what Carson tells us about the LP:

Carousel comes from a lyric off my last record, a song called 'City Cry': 'Like pennies to a wishing well I’ll ride this carousel but the painted ponies never change their place". Austin, Texas is my hometown and it has been referred to as 'the velvet rut'. The title Carousel acknowledges AND embraces the fact that I revisit some of my earlier songs, and I hope illustrates that in doing so I was able to push beyond my roots.

Ahead of this Friday's release, a full stream of the album premieres below.

Carson will also be touring, including a LA show the day the album comes out, a hometown Austin show on 11/1, and then a trip to the Northeast where she'll play two NYC shows: Skinny Dennis on November 13 with Zephaniah O'Hara and Hill Country BBQ on November 14. All dates are listed below.
