Cherubs Immaculada High

stream Cherubs' new album 'Immaculada High'

Austin noise rock vets Cherubs reformed in 2014 after a 20-year hiatus and released new album 2 YNFYNYTY on Brutal Panda the following year, and now they’re set to release their second reunion album — and first for Relapse — Immaculada High this Friday (7/26). If you’d like to hear it ahead of its official release, though, you’re in luck. A full stream premieres below.

The album was recorded and engineered by Erik Wofford, who’s worked with other Austin artists like Explosions in the Sky, Okkervil River, The Black Angels, and more, and Erik helps them achieve exactly the kind of sound music like this needs. It’s raw and psychedelic with a massive snare crack of Steve Albini proportions, clear enough that every individual part comes through but still as noisy and weird and claustrophobic as you’d hope. The band says, “This recording feels like the soundtrack to a movie about Mother Nature exacting dark revenge on the nasty homo sapiens. There’s tigers and pigs and wolves crying out of eyes – oh my.” Listen to the full album below, and if you like what you hear, you can pre-order it.
