Not only are Jawbox finally reunited, the members are still staying busy with other projects too. Frontman J Robbins recently put out his first-ever solo album and he’s gearing up for a solo tour, and guitarist/secondary vocalist Bill Barbot has also been working with his new band Foxhall Stacks. Foxhall Stacks’ lineup is rounded out by Peter Moffett (Government Issue), Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), and Jim Spellman (Velocity Girl), and as you’d probably expect from a lineup like that, they’re impossibly tight and they know how to write songs that leave an impact on first listen.
Their debut album The Coming Collapse, which was produced by Edsel bassist Geoff Sanoff, comes out this Friday (9/20) via Snappy Little Numbers (pre-order), and we’re premiering a full stream of it in this post. The band refer to their own sound as “’70s power pop drenched in ’80s punk,” and that should give you a pretty perfect idea of what to expect from this LP. And like a lot of ’80s punk bands who started incorporating ’70s power pop into their music, Foxhall Stacks sounds a lot like ’90s alternative rock too. They’ve still got their punk edge, but they’ve also got a jangly side and a serious knack for pop hooks. Fans of all the members’ other bands will probably wanna hear this, and it’s also the kind of record that could appeal to fans of anything from Sugar or Dinosaur Jr to poppier alt-rock bands like Gin Blossoms.
