stream Horse Feathers' "Don't Mean To Pry"

As mentioned, Portland folk rockers Horse Feathers are releasing their sixth album Appreciation this year on longtime label Kill Rock Stars (pre-order). It’s not out for about another month (May 4), but while you wait to hear the whole thing, we’re premiering a new song from it today, “Don’t Mean to Pry.” Compared to the rollicking lead single/opening track “Without Applause,” “Don’t Mean To Pry” is both more relaxed and more atmospheric. Main member Justin Ringle gives a tender vocal performance on this one, aided by some very pretty harmonies, until he starts really belting it for the quickly-memorable chorus. With some nice fiddle (from longtime member Nathan Crockett) and pedal steel (from J. Tom Hnatow) in the mix too, “Don’t Mean To Pry” has just about everything a twangy folk rock song needs. Listen below.

Horse Feathers are also touring this year, including a NYC show on June 7 at Bowery Ballroom (tickets).
