This Friday (7/27), veteran indie/emo singer/songwriters Kevin Devine and David Bazan will release their split 7", which has each musician covering a song by newer band Now, Now. You've already heard Bazan's contribution, and we're now premiering Kevin's take on Now, Now's "Prehistoric." Kevin's version favors gentle guitar over the grungy chords of the original, and he really plays up the atmospheric side -- this is a little hazier than Kevin's music usually gets. It's a great take on the song, and just as worth hearing as the original.

Former Now, Now member Jess Abbot (who now leads the band Tancred) told us, "This was so beautiful to hear. I wrote 'Prehistoric' in my high school band room when I was 17, it’s surreal for it to be covered by someone I respect so much." Listen to Kevin's cover below. The split is part of Kevin's Devinyl Split series, and it comes out on Bad Timing Records. You can pre-order it physically or digitally.

Kevin is also on tour now, and TONIGHT (7/25) he opens The Hold Steady's Stay Positive 10th anniversary show at Jersey City's White Eagle Hall. That's sold out, but if you have tickets, make sure to get there early for Kevin's set. Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn also teamed with Kevin for a Devinyl Split this year.

Kevin also plays the "Bell House Summer Series At Industry City" in Brooklyn on 8/23 with Remember Sports (tickets), he's got dates with Manchester Orchestra and (Sandy) Alex G, he plays Riot Fest, and more. All dates are listed below.

Speaking of Tancred, they open for Worriers (who also did a Devinyl Split this year) on Tuesday (7/31) at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn. Oceanator is on that show too, which makes for a very cool indie/punk bill all around. Tickets are available.
