Long-running indie singer/songwriter Mirah is set to follow 2014's Changing Light with her first album in four years, Understanding, and we're premiering a new song from it, "Ordinary Day" (which, no, is not a Vanessa Carlton cover). She's already released a few songs from it, all of which have sounded pretty different, and "Ordinary Day" is no exception. It's a lovely dose of minimal bedroom synthpop that sounds kinda like it could've come out in the early 2000s, and it sounds great today too. It's a love song, as Mirah explains:

It’s always strange to write love songs, to fall in love, when the world feels like it’s falling into a dark hole. But we have to. It’s useful actually. Love lifts the world up. It makes it so you can wake up crying, but then look over at the one you love and know that you can face the world, together and separately, and bring beauty and bring peace, not just to each other, but to everyone you meet and every place you go. Love is a strong power.

The album comes out September 7 via her own Absolute Magnitude Recordings label (pre-order). Listen to the new song, and the three previous singles, below.

As mentioned, Mirah is also touring, including a show at Brooklyn's gorgeous Park Church Co-Op on October 20 (tickets). All dates are listed below.
