Pink Avalanche

stream Pink Avalanche's new LP 'III'; tour starts this week

Pink Avalanche is fronted by Chicago scene staple Che Arthur (who used to be in Atombombpocketknife and has worked with Bob Mould, Shellac, Pelican, and many others), and having previously played as a four-piece, they’re now a trio — with Adam Reach (The Poison Arrows) and Kortland Chase (ex-Chatty Cathy) rounding out the lineup — for their third album III, which follows 2014’s The Luminous Heart of Nowhere. We recently posted the single “Blood On Tile” from the new album, and we’re now premiering a stream of the whole thing. It’s 12 tracks of wiry, knotty post-hardcore that fall somewhere between Slint and Unwound and should definitely appeal to fans of both of those bands. There’s no shortage of music like this, but Pink Avalanche just have that special something and they do this kinda thing really well. Listen below. The album comes out Friday (4/19) via Past/Futures and File-13 Records (pre-order).

They’re also going on a tour, beginning with an album release show in their hometown this Thursday (4/18), and followed by a mix of full-band shows and solo sets from Che. Che plays a solo set at Jersey City’s FM on April 25 with Tyler Spencer (Electric Six) and Tom Barrett (X-Overlake), and Pink Avalanche have a Saturday matinee NYC show on April 27 at Gold Sounds with Superblonde and LAPêCHE. All dates are listed below.

LAPêCHE are also opening part of Jawbox’s reunion tour (including the sold-out Brooklyn show), and they also play Gold Sounds on 6/27 with The Pauses and Death Cults.

The new Pink Avalanche album is part of File-13 Records’ 30th anniversary celebration, and here’s what the label says about that:

File 13 Records is fucking stoked to announce that 2019 is our 30th anniversary! A label and artist collective since 1989, File 13 is headed toward it’s 100th within the year as well. We have a lot of schemes in the works to celebrate, many of which will be announced soon as we nail them down.
