Brooklyn band RIPS will release their debut album this week via Faux Discsx. While it pulls inspiration from late '70s NYC mutant pop (Feelies, Television), it's wirey, snarling and hooky in a modern way and really bristles with energy. Austin Brown of Parquet Courts produced the record and there is definite sonic kinship between the two groups. RIPS will kick off a summer tour with their official record release party which happens at Brookln's Baby's All Right on July 1 with POPPIES and Rat Columns (tickets). You can see them in Brooklyn before that as they play Thursday, June 15 at The Glove with Hypoluxo and Wild Pink ($7 at the door). All dates are listed below.
