stream The Scandals’ “Hostage” (prod. Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem)
New Brunswick punks The Scandals are releasing a new EP, Lucky Seven, on April 28 via Panic State/Say-10 Records. It was produced by Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon, who The Scandals have had a relationship with for a while now. We're premiering the EP's new single "Hostage," which is a nice dose of gruff, raspy-voiced punk that Gaslight Anthem (or Hot Water Music) fans might dig. Check it out below. Here's what frontman Jared Hart tells us about it:
“Hostage" is a song I had been meaning to write for a very long time. It takes place in the communities and streets that we all know. It’s about a person in isolation due to a past or a present that you will never know. It’s about thinking about that person and wondering if anyone else in the world is thinking about them. It’s about wondering how the hell they made it this far. It’s about putting yourself in their shoes and asking if there’s anything you can do. It’s about neighbors and how we’ll never truly know the experiences of the person that can live so close to you. It can be about any one of us.
The Scandals' only upcoming show at the moment is a record release party for the new EP on April 29 at Crossroads in Jersey, with Gates, Dead Swords, Nine Eighteen, and D'Arcy (tickets). More dates TBA.
Jared Hart has upcoming solo shows too. He's got shows this week opening for Cory Branan, including Brooklyn's Rough Trade on Tuesday (4/11) (tickets). He also plays the Asbury Park Punk Rock Bowling night show on June 9 at House of Independents with Hot Water Music co-frontman Chuck Ragan and The Dead Milkmen's Joe Jack Talcum (tickets). All of his dates are listed below.
