As mentioned, beloved Seattle label Sub Pop is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and part of their anniversary celebration includes -- wait for it -- an airplane! The label partnered with Alaska Airlines to create a special Boeing 737-800, adorned with Sub Pop-related decor (seen above). Its inaugural flight was Thursday morning (8/2) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Natalie Bowman, the managing director of brand marketing and advertising at Alaska Airlines, had this to say about the Sub Pop plane:

In celebration of the label’s 30th anniversary, we are thrilled to partner with Sub Pop to bring two iconic Seattle brands together in the skies. This partnership brings together two independent, local brands that are committed to doing things a little differently.

Sub Pop co-president/founder Jonathan Poneman added, "The jet's wrapping makes it look like a Sub Pop musician's instrument case, only in much better condition. It's definitely the sickest jet on the tarmac!"

This isn't the first time Sub Pop and aviation have collided, as the label currently has a store inside Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and back in 2016, Alaska Airlines began offering complimentary music by Sub Pop to its customers.

They also recently expanded the lineup for their SPF30 festival, which runs from August 10-11, including a massive all-day free show on 8/11 along Alki Beach in West Seattle. Father John Misty, Hot Snakes, and Bully now join previously-announced acts Beach House, Mudhoney, METZ, Wolf Parade, Shabazz Palaces, and Moaning, among many others. The fest includes some ticketed events as well, including a show with Pissed Jeans, and a show with the cast of Bob's Burgers, the latter of which has since sold out. You can view the full schedule below. You can find out more about SPF30 HERE.

In related Sub Pop 30th anniversary news, the label has announced a series of limited-edition commemorative split 7" singles, dubbed the "SPF30 Singles Spectacular," containing unreleased material from many of the label's artists. These singles will be exclusively sold at SPF30, and features unreleased tracks from Mudhoney, Hot Snakes, Clipping, Shabazz Palaces, METZ, and others. In addition, each of the singles features original artwork from Rick Froberg of Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, etc. You can view the tracklists for each of the split singles below.

Lastly, happy belated to "Touch Me I'm Sick," which turned 30 yesterday!
