Sumac Love In Shadow

Sumac share 16-minute "Attis' Blade"

Sumac — aka frontman Aaron Turner (Isis), bassist Brian Cook (Russian Circles, Botch), and drummer Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) — recently announced their third album, Love In Shadow, and now they’ve released the first, nearly-16 minute single, “Attis’ Blade,” which is one of four tracks on the album. Throughout its lengthy running time, the song treks through truly heavy stuff with Aaron Turner’s guttural screams in the forefront, atonal noise, beautiful post-rock, and more, and somehow, it’s over before you know it. It’s good stuff; listen below. The album drops September 21 via Thrill Jockey.

As mentioned, Sumac are touring in September, including Brooklyn shows on September 7 at Saint Vitus with Dalek and Infernal Coil (tickets) and September 8 at National Sawdust with Dalek and Lussuria (tickets). All dates are listed below.

In related news, Isis are reuniting (under the name “Celestial”) for an LA one-off in honor of Caleb Scofield (of Cave In, Old Man Gloom, and more). At a recent Caleb benefit in Boston, Aaron Turner filled in on guest vocals for Zozobra, the band that Caleb fronted.
