This week is the annual industry conference A2IM Indie Week in NYC and while it’s mostly about and for music biz types, there are also a few shows associated with it, and some of them are free.

On Tuesday (6/18) at Pianos it’s the Canadian and Dutch showcase, presented in part by our friends at M for Montreal, which takes over both the upstairs and downstairs of the Ludlow St. venue. The night includes both Russell Louder and Radiant Baby, who we caught at M For Montreal 2018, plus Montreal actress and singer Claudia Bouvette and Toronto blues rock artist SATE. On the Dutch side there’s folk pop artist Awkward i, pop singer Blanks and YORI. That show is free with RSVP.

On Wednesday at Rockwood Music Hall it’s the free Reeperbahn Festival showcase with NYC acts Surfbort and Renata Zeiguer, German bands Gurr and Leoniden, Israeli singer ORI, Austria’s Mira Lu Kovacs, and Winnipeg band Yes We Mystic. No RSVP necessary and more info on that show is here.

Then on Thursday (6/20) it’s the annual A2IM Libera Awards which this year happens at the Ziegfeld and features performances by Sunflower Bean and Deva Mahal. This is a very industry-oriented event (mostly an awards show) which is reflected in the steep price for tickets.

There are lots of panel discussions, which is the real bread and butter of Indie Week, including “The Intersection of Gaming and Music,” “Crash Course; Vinyl,” “Lasting Power: A Conversation with Indie Music’s Longest Lasting Labels,” and more.
