surviving Nirvana members played 6 songs w/ Joan Jett & John McCauley at Cal Jam (watch)
When Krist Novoselic's band Giants in the Trees opened for Foo Fighters in Seattle earlier this year, Krist joined his former Nirvana bandmates Dave Grohl and Pat Smear on stage to play Nirvana's version of the Vaselines' "Molly's Lips." Giants in the Trees also played Foo Fighters' Cal Jam '18 festival yesterday (10/6), and Krist once again joined his old bandmates on stage, this time for six Nirvana songs: "Serve The Servants," "Scentless Apprentice," "In Bloom," "Breed," "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and "All Apologies."
They did "Teen Spirit," "Breed," and "All Apologies" with guest lead vocalist Joan Jett (who also sang Nirvana songs with Krist, Dave, and Pat at the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the afterparty at Saint Vitus), and "Serve The Servants," "Scentless Apprentice," and "In Bloom" with guest lead vocalist John McCauley of Deer Tick (who have done full Nirvana cover sets under the name Deervana, and who also sang at that afterparty at Saint Vitus). Brody Dalle of the reunited Distillers also played bass on "All Apologies." Watch videos of all six songs below.
Cal Jam also included Iggy Pop with his Post Pop Depression band, Garbage, Tenacious D, and more. Dave Grohl also sat in on drums with Giants in the Trees earlier in the day, and you can see video of that below too.
