This week: reviews of new records from Julian Cope, the late Andrew Weatherall, Daisies, Spinning Coin, Capricorn One (Ed Ackerson, RIP), and Lithuanian minimal wave band Solo Ansamblis.
The album was produced by Justin's MCS bandmate Joshua Cain and it features David Jarnstrom (Gratitude, BNLX), and Justin is touring with Thin Lips and Pronoun.
It's an overstuffed Basement this week, with new records from UK eccentric Julian Cope, Ireland's Girls Names, German house producer DJ Koze, the return of Taken By Trees (aka Victoria Bergsman of The Concretes), '80s alt vets Shriekback, Montreal's gothy Freak Heat Waves, and snarky Minneapolis duo BNLX.
Minneapolis' arch noisepoppers BNLX are back with a new album, Good Light, which is out now on Susstones. As usual, Ed and Ashley Ackerson are not shy about their influences (mostly of the '80s college radio / UK indie variety) but they're canny songwriters and load the songs up with hooks (even if sometimes they're, like on "Flextime," New Order and Echo & the Bunnymen's hooks)...

In addition to last year's debut album, Minneapolis post punks BNLX have spent the last few years cranking out EPs and will release #8 sometime soon...
