Saturday was the fourth day of M for Montreal and the second day of the weekend M Fest with shows spread out all over the city. It was a welcome change this year, especially on Saturday, as all previous years have ended with a big show at the Metropolis theatre usually featuring a bunch of artists aimed toward a Montreal crowd that may not appeal to those who don’t live there (like, say, Pierre Lapointe who I suffered through in 2008)…

The seventh annual M for Montreal festival happens next week (November 14 – 17) in its namesake Canadian city. Previous years, M4M has featured mainly Montreal (and other parts of Canada) artists, being showcased to a group of “international delgates” (talent buyers, journalists, music supervisors, tour agenents and other industry types) in a tightly controlled set of shows, this year’s fest expands its scope with nearly 100 performer at 16 venues, giving it more of an actual festival feel than an industry conference that has music showcases the public could by tickets to…

It’s been about two years since we last heard from Montreal’s Valleys who apparently have had a rethink since then. The band (Matilda Perks and Marc St Louis) have dropped the folky elements of their music but kept the ethereal atmophere, adding layers of analog synths to their sound…
