The Screen Slate film series turns 10 this year, and they’re celebrating with a special weekend of screenings: Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley & Lee Ranaldo will be on hand for the ‘Year Punk Broke‘.

The Stooges’ Ron Asheton, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore & Steve Shelley, Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, Minutemen’s Mike Watt, Sean Lennon, producer/Gumball leader Don Fleming and Jim Dunbar formed The Wylde Ratttz in 1997 to record tracks by The Stooges for Todd Haynes’ loosely-based-on-Bowie glam rock biopic Velvet Goldmine….

Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, who passed away in 2009, would be turning 70 on July 17, and that day, in his former hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, a very impressive cast of musicians will pay tribute to him…
