The National and Common played a benefit show for Planned Parenthood last night on the eve of the inauguration at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club. The show was one of many benefit and protest shows happening around the nation’s capitol this weekend…

The comp features The Menzingers (covering Jason Isbell), Laura Stevenson (covering Townes Van Zandt), Jeff Rosenstock (covering Bikini Kill), Chris Farren (covering Against Me!), Augusta Koch of Cayetana (covering The Mountain Goats), Radiator Hospital (covering Fred Thomas), Restorations singer Jon Loudon (covering Bright Eyes), Cheap Girls singer Ian Graham (covering Evan Dando), and more.

It includes a new song (“Crow”) from Mount Eerie‘s upcoming, unannounced album. It also includes a Pains of Being Pure Heart song exclusive to this compilation (“Easy To Be Loved”), a cover of “Hey Paula” by Dean & Britta, and more.

Quasi (aka Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss) have put together a new compilation protest album called Battle Hymns that features tons of exciting guests. It’s a pay-what-you-want download, and proceeds benefit Planned Parenthood, ACLU, and 350.org.

Arcade Fire have been promising a new album for this year and now a new single is officially out.

It appears that Roots collaborator Chrisette Michele has agreed to play “The Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” in DC. Questlove said: “I’d pay Chrisette to NOT perform.”

They also play an inauguration protest/Planned Parenthood benefit with The Dead Milkmen in Philly this week.
