Jäh Division grew out of a joke between Brad Truax (Home, now Interpol) and Barry London (Dan Melchior's Broke Revue), when they were roommates in early-'00s Williamsburg and became a real band doing dub instrumental covers of Joy Division songs...

This week in the Basement: vinyl reissues from New Order and Prefab Sprout, plus new music from Business of Dreams (Corey of Terry Malts), the return of Cleveland's Herzog, and new UK singer-songwriter Whoa Melodic.

It's a very different list than the Best LPs of the '80s list Pitchfork made in 2002.

The Pumpkins did their own songs with Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Killers members; Hole songs and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" with Courtney; Joy Division/New Order songs with Peter Hook, Davey Havok (AFI), and Courtney; and Sugar Ray and Judas Priest with Mark McGrath.

It will also, for some reason, feature Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath.

Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross, Head Wound City) has a new episode of his Cult and Culture podcast, and in this one he discusses Joy Division with members of The Blood Brothers, Swing Kids, and Narrows.
