Lady A (aka veteran soul and blues singer Anita White) and Lady A (the country band formerly known as Lady Antebellum) have settled their dispute over rights to the name out of court

“Once again, the CMA’s are censoring/white washing their show but who’s surprised?“ – Margo Price.

”The effect of the name change on Ms. White’s ability to distinguish her music in the marketplace was overwhelming,” the lawsuit claims.

“I have worked too long and too hard to just give my name away”

“You don’t get to just come and take because you have that privilege,” White says of the band and of the music industry as a whole. “We don’t have that luxury or that privilege, so we need somebody to help us and lift us up.”

Despite having used the name Lady A for 20 years, blues singer Anita White has agreed that Lady Antebellum can be Lady A too. ”I accepted that apology and forgive them for that misstep, but at the same time, we need to work to make a better change.”

”They’re using the name because of a Black Lives Matter incident that, for them, is just a moment in time. If it mattered, it would have mattered to them before.”

“As musicians, [“Antebellum”] reminded us of all the music born in the south that influenced us…Southern Rock, Blues, R&B, Gospel and of course Country. But we are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before The Civil War, which includes slavery.”
