It’s become a Brooklyn tradition, having Sun Ra Arkestra play Union Pool’s free Summer Thunder series and that continued on Sunday with 99-year-old Marshall Allen still their skronky spark.

Saturday’s NYC-area shows include Mount Eerie, Liturgy, Saosin, Saves the Day, Necrot, GBH, Rebecca Black, Babyface Ray, and more.

Hannibal Buress hosts the annual ceremony highlighting “the successes of the independent music community” that also features performances by Margo Price, Shemekia Copeland, Dawn Richard + Spencer Zahn, and more.

They’ll be joined by Sun Ra Arkestra band leader Marshall Allen, musical collective Mourning [A] BLKstar, and more for the benefit.

Friday’s NYC-area shows include Joe Rainey & Owls, The Men, Chris Brokaw, The Alarm, The Smithereens, and more.

The third-annual BRIC Jazzfest takes place October 14 – 21 at BRIC House in Brooklyn, including concerts, film screenings, panel discussions, dance and more. Performers include Maceo Parker, The Sun Ra Arkesta Directed by Marshall Allen, Regina Carter, Vijay Iyer, The Terri Lyne Carrington Band, and GoGo Penguin.
